The United States Military Academy at West Point was established on March 6, 1802 and is a  four year coeducational military academy in West Point, New York. Great Civil War generals Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant both graduated from the academy, and them along with several other graduates helped bring West Point to prominence during the Mexican-American War as graduates proved themselves in battle for the first time.
